Day 01Machame Gate – Machame CampBegin through the montane rainforest
After breakfast and a final equipment check, transfer to Machame Gate for registration and porter organization.
Trek through dense, humid rainforest to Machame Camp, where the mountain team prepares the tents and evening meal.
Day 02Machame Camp – Shira CampClimb into open moorland
Leave the upper rainforest and climb a rocky ridge into heath and moorland, with possible views of Mount Meru and Kibo.
Cross onto the broad Shira Plateau and rest at camp, with an optional short acclimatization walk depending on conditions.
Day 03Shira – Lava Tower – BarrancoClimb high and descend into Barranco Valley
Climb through alpine desert to Lava Tower at approximately 4,600 metres, an important high-altitude acclimatization point.
After lunch, descend into Barranco Valley to sleep lower beneath the dramatic Barranco Wall.
Day 04Barranco Camp – Karanga CampClimb the Barranco Wall
Climb the Barranco Wall using rocky steps and narrow passages, with guide support where required.
Continue across valleys and ridges to Karanga Camp for an additional acclimatization night before Barafu.
Day 05Karanga Camp – Barafu CampReach the summit base camp
Continue through exposed high alpine desert towards Barafu Camp, where the air is thinner and conditions are colder.
Rest, attend the summit briefing and prepare warm clothing, headlamp, snacks and water before an early dinner.
Day 06Barafu – Uhuru Peak – MwekaReach the roof of Africa
Begin around midnight and climb steep volcanic scree towards Stella Point, then continue around the crater rim to Uhuru Peak.
After photographs and a short celebration, descend to Barafu for rest and food before continuing to Mweka Camp.
Day 07Mweka Camp – Mweka GateComplete the rainforest descent
Descend through heathland and montane rainforest to Mweka Gate, where the guide completes park checkout procedures.
Receive the relevant summit certificate where applicable and transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.

PreparationFitness and equipment guidance
Prepare with regular walking, hill training, cardiovascular exercise and consecutive active days. Bring warm layered clothing, waterproof outerwear and broken-in hiking boots.

Fitness does not prevent altitude illness. Report symptoms immediately and follow the lead guide's instructions. Insurance should cover high-altitude trekking, medical care and emergency evacuation.
